Nevermind. I am actually going to go with a Time Capsule. I just bought a Airport Extreme last week so I am going to return it and get the TC.

My goal now is to use the Capsule with my 500GB iMac and then connect an external drive to the capsule to use as a NAS.

Well, I think the extreme cost me $170 and the Lacie drive was going to cost around $200. The time capsule is going to run me $279 so I'll save about $100 and have less clutter on my desk.

I didn't see the price of the lacie... man that's expensive. fw800 is nice I guess, but if it was going to just use USB anyway for the airport extreme, seems a little wasteful.

i guess the other argument is the airport worth it's premium :) I hope so, kinda want it for printer sharing. But I don't know if it will feed the right drivers to my winboxes.. can't get it working right with my imac.

I was going to connect the Lacie to my imac via FW800. Then connect a RAID external drive to the extreme as a NAS. Basically the TC will take one piece of hardware away from my desk.

seems like they read your mind and built it before you spent your money elsewhere :)
TC looks pretty sweet, good luck on your decision.

I'm not sure if you've seen this http://www.newertech.com/products/externalhd.php, the v3 is nice as well and you can add your own 7200 drive, only complaint I've read is that the fan is kind of loud when it turns on, but people have different thoughts of what loud is. Still I'm going to give it a shot and see how it is, and if everything is ok, I'm getting someone to airbrush their logo off the top, maybe get it all the same aluminum color. Oh and this one is like the guardian maximus but silver and made by someone else http://eshop.macsales.com/item...0Computing/MEFW912AL2/
