I have an external desktop drive, configured as a secondary boot drive. My question is: how does one boot from an external desktop drive when it's attached to the motherboard via USB?
Depends on your board?s bios. You can press F? key during post to access the boot screen (F8/F11/F12 normally) and choose USB device or configure your external to be first/after an optical in the list (and press no keys when prompted to boot from it at every restart if you want to boot from hdd ? slight delay).
