External display on laptop not working after reset in Windows 8

I have an HP laptop with Win 8 that has a cracked screen. I was going to sell it so I went into the options and did a reset and wipe my files. Now when I power it on it will not display on my monitor, I have tried hdmi and vga. It was working fine before, any suggestions?
