i got one of these a few weeks ago. It was a 24x on the box, yet the drive face says 32x, but in BIOS, it shows up as 40x12x48!

So, its a 40x, but you cant tell until you actually open the box

I got one back in february and have yet to get the reabte. Calls and emails to their rebate center have proved useless (yes I have copies of everything). Buyer Beware. My drive also ended up being 40x for burning.

Is this for the Cendyne? If so, I believe that they filed for bankruptcy.

Similar story for me. I got the 24X, which turned out to be 40X once I opened the box. (It is actually labeled as 40X on the front of the drive.) And I am still waiting on the rebate.

No problems with the drive, and yes, you should be able to disassemble and stick another drive in there.

I can't imagine a serial connection working, and have never seen one. A serial connection wouldn't even be fast enough for 1X burning, so it would literally be unable to drive a CD recorder, even with caching. Actually, most modern CD recorders can't slow down below 4X.

Is this a really good deal? I don't know what externals are going for these days. I would like to stick my Pioneer A04 in it and see how that works actually. -Tal

has anyone seen any of these in a store, they wanted $12 to ship it to me, that is crap if you ask me, I need an external drive asap I need to reinstall winblows on my laptop now, it crashes every other time i boot it up. Anyone know where to pricematch it or anything? help me I need an external enclosure or drive soon.

I got it for $5 shipping and $2.86 tax. total was $46.86 shipped. I'm ok with that. I've been wanting one for a while. Hoping that it's a 40x!!!!!! -Tal
