External Antenna for LapTop

I have a Dell laptop with a built-in 802.11g card which I use for accessing WiFi Hotspots while on the road. I want to increase the range of the card by adding an external antenna which will mount on the roof of my travel trailer. The question is, how do I attach the antenna to the laptop. One suggestion I've read is to add a Zoomair Model 4103 PCMCIA card, which has a removable antenna, and use it in place of the internal card with the outside antenna attached to it. Another is to use a Linksys WET11 bridge, attach the outside antenna to it and attach it to the laptop with an Ethernet cable. The third is to purchase a Linksys WRT54g access point with Sveasoft firmware and use it in client mode. I'm totally new to wireless and much of what I've written, I'm not sure I understand. Any suggestions on how to proceed will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AT Network Forum,

All of your three solution might work as long as you get units that can be fit with Good External Antenna (6dbi and above) and not count on the 2dbi "Sticks"

I would rate them like this.

1. A Wireless Ethernet Bridge that can be fit with an External Antenna.

2. A Wireless Router or an AP in Client Mode that can be fit with an External Antenna.

3. A Wireless USB that can be fit with an External Antenna.

4. A PCMCIA that can be fit with an External Antenna.
