extension for command pad for Saitek Gamer's Keyboard

I really like using the command pad with the Saitek Gamer's Keyboard, but with my desk layout I really need an extension cable to connect the command pad to the keyboard. I tried asking Saitek but they said flat out that they don't make one. I tried using a regular Cat 5e cable since the command pad cable has an RJ-45 connector, but no dice. I even tried to use a crossover cable but still no luck. Anyone dealt with this before?

Have you tried using a multimeter to figure out the wire layout to make your own?
I got the eclipse so no pad for me.

No, I haven't tried that yet. I have a multimeter though...will you please explain to me how I can use it to make a cable that will work?
