I have 2 additional routers I was thinking of using to position around the house for better wifi coverage. Tried setting first one up with same ssid as my main one and some of the house devices don't seem particularly fond of that. What's the best way to set this up?
You can use those, and use the same SSID, but you have to set the channels so they don't overlap. Main one at 6, next at 1, next at 11, etc...
You will find that routers like that want transfer sessions between each other, so once your device associates with a WAP, that's where it stays until is disconnects, and connects.
You also need to set it up as a WAP, and not as another router...
You will also need to set it to as an AP. If you connect it as-is out-of-the-box NAT mode, things connected after one router won't see things connected to another via the WAN port... that's how your router protects (isolates) you from the rawness of the Internet.
Newer APs can have access to 80Mhz wide DFS channels which would allow you to easily set non-overlapping channels assuming you don't live near a radar station or similar which could interfere with the wider bands.
