Extending wifi advice

I did search and read several other threads, guides but still not sure what device to use.

Simply: have room in back with desktop that is hardwired to wifi router (dlink di-524 ) in house. Would like to extend wifi to outside room using the hardwire but still be able to have desktop wired...?

Thanks 😀

Just plug it into another port. Or, go wireless. What other device do you think you need?

where is your modem placed? with the current router and desktop?

you could buy a wireless bridge (or a router with dd-wrt/tomato compatible)

My bad explaining:
currently

Main house: [comcast hsi ==> di-524]===========> Outside: [desktop]

Outside room: desktop connected to di-524 lan port by 100ft. eth cable.

Wifi signal is poor due to di-524 distance from room. Would like to connect a (wireless bridge/repeater/ap...not sure which?) to add wifi to room. But also still be able to connect desktop via lan cable.

So would be: comcast hsi===>di-524==============>(bridge/ap, whatever)===>desktop

don't know if this would work..?

Thanks 4 the reply. After reading your guide, I decided to pull the ol wrt54g out of the garage and give it another go. Followed your guide but no luck, flashed dd-wrt and still just will not work right. Same result (wireless connects but no internet, pc lan doesn't get a ip from router 1) when I had tried it some time ago. I am thinking that di-524 just doesn't play well with other routers or maybe just linksys.

So might be better off junking di-524 and getting 2 routers that can do this for sure...? Any model suggestions that aren't real pricey...?

It should work if configured correctly.

However "Junking" the di524 is a good idea it was Not worth much even when it was released new years ago.

This might be able to solve the issue by itself with the High Power Wireless.

Buy one and try if it is Not strong enough buy a second one and set it as an AP.

$46 after mir - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162031
