Extending the Range of a Wireless Network

At the moment, I have a Linksys WRT54G in the home office, and I can get a wireless signal anywhere in my hosue, but it's weakest in my bedroom. (it occasionaly drops when I'm on my laptop in there).

I plan on getting a wireless card so I can hook my desktop up in there and use the internet when im home from college, and want to get a stronger signal on it since I game with it, and was wondering what I can do to help with it, preferably in an inexpensive manner.

I'm not sure whats a good wireless card for a desktop, and if it'd get a better signal than the wireless card in the laptop (its whatever is the intel centrno duo certified one that can use 802.11g), or if there is anything that can be added to make the signal stronger, or anything. I'm a nub when it comes to wireless toys, so any help is appreciated.

Get a PCI card that can be fitted with High Gain Directional Antenna.

Get an Antenna that have at least a foot of cable. Putting a Directional Antenna above the system directed toward the Woreless Router might provide a solid signal.

You can also Flash the Router with DD_WRT firmware and boost its output signal ( http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G/GL/GS/GX ).
