Extending a wireless network

I have my comp wired to the router, my roomates laptop however is wireless. Everything is in my bedroom, He gets lousy servive in the family room all the way across the house. I want to place a router in the middle of the house and sling the signal to that and then to the laptop Can I use my second router to achieve this?
