Extending a USB cable with CAT5E

No adapters, just a straight splice. I would like to extend a cable that's 11 feet to about 65 feet using CAT5E in between.

Anyone try something like this? Does it work?
 
no, usb won't go that far without some amplification along the way. That's why you see units and long cables that power little inline amplifiers off the 5V.
Can you get by with serial? I have stretched that over 65 feet.
 
Well technically it's not USB that a computer uses but the connectors are the same. I'll have to try this and see. :Q
