Wife got me a preplayed sony PSP from ebgames yesterday.

I called and they told me that the extended warranty on preplayed psps covers only 6 months. He said it costs ~$14.00

Is it really worth getting?

Anyone know if EBGames has a restocking fee. I'm thinking of getting a new PSP from dell instead of the used from EBgames since it's a much better deal. My wife didn't know better :)

Overall, estended warranties tend to average 90% profit for the company and 10% return for repairs. While that average might not apply to your specific purchase, it is something to always keep in mind.

Generally, the only time it pays off is if you buy something that is cutting edge (unknown reliablity), expensive (something you can't replace without a major problem to your budget), and likely to break (some items are quite simple and have few things that can possibly break).

EBGames sucks. They told me that once you open the system, you can not return it at all. I then told the guy that I haven't even opened it yet and he told me there are no returns on preplayed systems at all. He told me it's a corporate policy.

I guess it's joined the "Do not Shop at" list along with Worst Buy

Amex Blue automatically doubles any maufacturer's warranty for purchases of goods made entirely on the card.

I think the limit is $50K/year and shipping charges are not re-imbursed.

I had a couple optical drives go bad after about 18 months and Amex sent me the $170! (dvd burners were really expensive back then)
