I know this board is usually against warranties in general, especially extended warranties, but this may be an exception.

Parents are wondering if they should purchase the extended BMW 4 year/ 50,000 mile for their 2009 x5 4.8

Its at 37,000 miles right now, so its steadily creeping up to 50,000. Its already had issues with the nav going out completely, heater not working. Low oil light at 20,xxx miles. All fixed under warranty of course
The cost to repair this vehicle is astronomical, which is why we are contemplating about the extended warranty.

Don't know the pricing on the warranty but they are planning to keep this vehicle for a while. Bought it brand new

I'm just advising them, once that warranty runs out, don't expect the next 5 years to be repair free. And yes they knew what they were buying and getting into, no need for flaming for not expecting high costs, etc...

Also side question: They are wondering if they can use something other than run flat tires. Dealer wants 400 per tire!

i'd go with an extended warranty. those repairs will get expensive. run flat tires not needed. f the dealer. cant remember if the x5 comes with a staggered setup. just go to tires.com and find something to match

Buy expensive luxury vehicle; complain about cost of tires.

Dear Troll,

Parents aren't complaining, I was just set back at the price...and I didn't purchase the vehicle.

I really just asked if we have to have run flat tires, as the dealer emphasized etc etc etc...

Also sorta asked to keep the whole buying a luxury vehicle and complain about costs away from this thread.

Thanks

Yes you can use something other than run flat tires. I replaced the run flats on my old Corvette with reg tires. Made the ride softer but much cheaper and more options.

If its a factory warranty then they are ok and for used European cars that you will not do much/any work on then it will probable be worth it.
Its the aftermarket warranty I would never touch.

Thanks for the info

I'll let them know they don't have to pay for run - flats.
The car has tpms so if anything was to occur, pull over to the side of the road and call AAA.

And yes its a factory warranty, reading online seems to be an additional 3 years/30,000 miles and some 2 year warranty making it possible to 8 years in total/ 100,000 miles.

Also shop around on the factory warranty as there is haggle room. Check out some BMW boards to see where they bought theirs.
