extended warranty on Compaq Presario

I also got suckered into buying a 3 year warranty from Best Buy after being told that Compaq only provides 90 days for parts and 1 year labor. I could deal with 1 year for both but maybe some other Compaq users can shed some light on whether I should keep the extended warranty or not($250).

When i stopped working at Circuit City 3 weeks ago, all the Compaq's we sold had a 1 year Parts & Labor, not 90 days.

Check your manual, did they recently change it?

BTW, which model did you get?

I just checked a few Compaq's at bestbuy's site and all the ones i saw showed

Product Details

Warranty Terms - Parts 1 year limited

Warranty Terms - Labour 1 year limited

I would keep it as BBY has one of theee best extended plans around. Beats alot of manuf extended plans. The best part is they will replace the Batt which most plans cover as normal ware n tare so they don't have 2 pay 4 it. I would vote to keep it.

Do you think it would be better to keep the battery for however long it would last and buy a new one for $140 than keeping the $250 extra 2 year plan?

Athlon XP-M 2800+
512 MB Shared RAM
64 MB ATI something
40 GB 4200 rpm hd
10/100 ethernet
2 usb 1.1
s-video out
serial
parallel
ps/2
XGA 15"
pcmcia
no wifi/ieee 1394/bluetooth

thought this should suffice for my dad's word processing needs. Not quite my 600m but the build's definitely better than mine.
