Extended Warranties

I've been looking for a Hard Drive MP3 player, and want to get an extended warranty for it since most come with only 90 days. In reading the fine print for many of them, I've noticed that the warranty expires when the warranty provider has spend more than the total value of the product. This means that if they replace it once, the warranty is over. Is this common with these warranties? Are there better ones? Is it even worth getting a warranty?

Also, I'm looking for a specific item which Sears likely doesn't have. I found out that Warrantech offers warranties that don't depend on what store you buy them from. This may be perfect because I'm probably getting a refurb Rio Karma.

i bought a rio karma last year and i bought the extended warranty. right now it's been over a year and it has been almost perfect.

i see that it's better to pay a little now and if it were to go down, you at least get service or a replacement, rather than nothing

Depends on the item. And the plan.

Read the fine print.

Best Buy and such make BIG BUCKS on these "service plans" knowing that 8/10 will never use it or be able to make a claim. That's why they push them so hard!
