Does it freeze up for a half a second anywhere on the first movie disk?
Is that the DVD or my player?
 
it did for me to
i have a GE dvd player.
i just took the dvd back to to the store, told them the truth, and they replaced it
 
maybe a layer change, so how "good" does the dvd player have to be to handle it?
the player is a one year old sony
 
It varies. My cheapie Sharp progressive deck every once and a while hangs up, but otherwise OK.

Other than HTPC I've yet to find a standalone player that never has a problem at one time or another.
