Extended network can't see devices

Is it possible for an Extended Wireless network to see devices on the original wireless network. I purchased one of those Netgear wireless repeaters that you plug in the wall because the southern part of my house wasn't getting good signal. It works fine for just internet access, but now I would like to be able to print documents from laptop. I can't see anything on the original network though.

Are there settings I can change to see these devices?

Can you add the printer directly by it's IP? Or ping it's IP?
