Extended desktop won't apply

I built a new HTPC with a GA-MA78GM-S2H -- with the new 780G chipset from ATI... and I can't get the TV to work from either the onboard DVI or from an 8600GT I put in.

The onboard VGA works for a 17" CRT I am using for setup...
And the same monitor works on the 8600GT via DVI to VGA adapter...

But neither configuration will allow me to extend my desktop to the TV so I can set it up.

I posted in this thread about the motherboad not taking a D-SUB adapter... so I kind of answered my own question about that... but it makes no sense why the 8600GT won't allow me to extend the desktop to the TV via a DVI to Component adapter. It works just fine on my other HTPC...

I can do the drop down to extend the desktop to the 2nd monitor... but when I hit apply, it just changes right back and never applies it.

Also, when I tried using just the DVI to TV adapter, it showed some flickering when I shut it down to try something else... so I know it works.

Any ideas that might help? 🙁

Possibly the TV has some odd compatibility issue. Real old TV's don't seem to have good luck with TV-out and the default settings most new hardware tries to use for TV display.

Also, make sure you're using the right adapters, I know it sounds stupid but people have tried to use the wrong adapters for TV-Out in the past, especially with Vivo cables and Breakout boxes.
