Extend internal wireless range on laptop?

I live 3 blocks from my campus. My whole campus is set for wireless. I am wondering if there is any way to extend the distance of my wireless capabilities and possibly get on the campus network from 3 blocks away. Its an internal card so I couldn't use the famed pringles can, heh.. at least I don't think. Anyone have ideas?

Btw, its a Gateway M275E.

Get a USB 802.11b adapter and a long USB cable. Clamp the USB adapter at the focal point of a wok drain. Works like a champ and I've seen wardrivers do this and acquire signals across the bay (over 7 kM!)

Cheers!

I think you are probably outta luck. If you are getting some signal you could try buying a better card. Like an Orinoco...they are supposed to have better range. Second, just cuz you have an internal card doesnt mean you can buy an external one and try the pringles can. But I think the pringles can trick works better on the senders end. that is to say, you university would need a pringles can. I think you may be outta luck on this one. sorry. But do some google research, there may be a solution.

I'm thinking I might be able to hook up a cantenna type of thing on my roof... connect that to a wireless router... then connect my internal wireless laptop to that? I dunno, 3 blocks away doesn't seem toooo far, considering the points on campus gotta be big enough to get the size of campus (which is bigger then 3 blocks itself). Although, wireless is not available in the dorms... which is obviously on campus. Hmm... what to do... what to do...
