i've seen ext usb battery pack that can jump start a car battery.
so it only makes sense if someone would also make it act as a Taser to shock for self defense. seems so obvious as putting camera on a cellphone.
searching on amazon and ebay yields nothing. is there such a product or is this an original idea?

Taser is a brand and they will never multi use something like that into anything but self defense. These are essentially firearms that project darts with conductable wires.

Im sure some chinese or whacky corp could come up with a "stun gun" that can be used as a USB unit/flashlight/e-cig

Stun guns are terrible self defense tools because they are contact based only. If your intention is to use it to overpower a larger or stronget target, they will disarm you of it easily.

Irrespective of the value of an "official" stun gun as a weapon in general, while I don't know anything about how "official" stun guns work, I do strongly suspect that they don't simply deliver a more or less uncontrolled, high-current DC shock, and so whatever applicable law might be as far as using/carrying them might be it would likely not apply to a home-brew version. So depending on (again) applicable law, the attitudes of local LEA, and the typical sort of jury you'd be likely to get if it comes to that, I imagine that using a battery-jumping device could bring down a whole world of misery on you if used in anything less than truly extreme circumstances...

It's not that obvious an idea! I've been using battery packs for years and never had I thought "I wish that I could zap the crap out of someone with this!"

But then you also don't live in a larger American city (or anywhere in Texas, among several other states)... :oops:/;)/:p

I do live in the former, and while I can't say I've ever felt the lack of such a thing as a weapon (defensive or otherwise), I have often wished that car horn switches were wired to similar devices embedded somewhere in the relevant automobile's driver's seat... ^.-
