Hi All you storage and HDD wizards.
Here is my scenario:
Use an external 2.5" HDD connected via eSATA for backup of a file server (roughly 240GB of data files). Ext drive will be encrypted with Truecrypt.
Question:
Would there be a noticeable performance difference between a
2.5" 750GB 7200rpm drive versus a 2.5" 1TB 5400rpm drive if the primary role is receiving backups?
My dilemma is: 1TB 7200rpm drives are costly and tricky to find. 750GB 7200rpm's can be had, but if the capacity is not enough I don't want to be caught short. 1TB 5400rpm's are also available at only a few dollars/euros more than the 750GB 7200rpm's.
So, what is everyone's opinion? Potential backup solutions would be:
Cobian Backup from a WinSrv2012 to the ext drive or
Rsync from a SuSE Linux box to the ext drive
Thoughts?
