ext. cdrom 48x connected to USB1.1 port is a joke right?

I have a 48x burner and i'm considering putting it into a USB external enclosure
so as to connect it to the PC via USB1.1...

= 48xburner = 7200KB/sec = 7,200,000 Bytes = 57,600,000 bits/sec... right?

then USB1.1 = 1.2Mbps right?

so 1.2 Mbps = 1,200,000 bit/sec

so 57,600,000 bits/s sent into USB1 that only has bandwidth of 1,200,000 bits/s
ain't gonna cut it right?
let meknow if my math is wrong...

Your math is correct(minus the improper KB to Bytes conversion, it's 1024, not 1000). It needs to be hooked up to a USB 2.0 port to really "work", otherwise you're going to need to slow it down to 4x.

Just buy a USB 2.0 PCI controller card ,that`ll solve your problem,I presume it`s USB 2.0 your 48x drive?
