Has anyone tried the Speeze Whisper Rock II? Looking at cooling a Barton 2500+ curently at stock speeds, but may overclock. I'm looking for a fairly quiet/cheap alternative to stock cooling.

Very bad pun.
Anyway, yes. I don't know about a 2500+, but it should do fine. My friend's got it in a 2000+ Palomino, and it keeps it only a few degrees hotter than my SK-7+Panaflo L. I'f you're on a tight budget, get it. You even get sleeved cables for such a cheap cooler! :)

I use several, but not on particularly HOT chips only modestly OCed. It's pretty big and its clip is a fighter - take the fan off before mounting it on the CPU socket. I used a shim for extra safety ($2.00 newegg, $3.00 SVC). Then carefully replace the fan. I did a review of it over on: http://www.techimo.com/reviews/ . Check it out. Super for the money.
. I also like the Thermal Integration V77L. An exceptionally good design - works even better if you lap the copper core. $13. shipped from Newegg and $14. shipped from CPUtopia.com. Pretty easy to upgrade it to an 80mm fan if the stock 70mm doesn't do it for you (fan adapter at SVC.com). It's a pretty feisty little fan - 0.4Amp! One of the easiest mounting systems on the planet. Don't know how they can sell it for only $7. or $9. bucks + sh...

Sorry about the pun... anywho, thanks for the input. I don't want to spend $32 on a HSF, when the stock cooling is keeping me at ~50 C. I think I'll try the Whisper Rock II out and see how it goes. Even if it cools the same as AMD's stock cooler, the sound improvement will be worth $10 easy.

It's my favorite low buck cooler. I've used several and the last one was on an XP2400 with Ceramique which stayed well below 50. I've got one on a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra with an XP1800 and it's never seen 40C, but then I have enough fans to keep it hovering 6" off the floor.
