That was ONE SUCKY "exclusive review".

Im betting on Nvidia releasing the 485 with the full amount of cores.

This card isn't coming out as is. Nvidia will tweak and respin GF100 before releasing a 512 shader part. Supposedly the code name is GF102.

Nvidia officially says that the GTX480 consumes 250 watts, so what will this be considered? I can't imagine that they'll actually release this part if that power consumption is accurate.

Nice. This is an example of a card I'd pay NOT to have. Seriously, something like this has literal negative value to me. If someone kept breaking into my house to install a 400-500 watt card in my machine and demand $ to stop, I'd pay them.

if true, that power consumption is some fucked up shit

Never mind that, 94C with the fan at 92% ? What the eff is that ? These cards sound like jet planes with the fan that high and even with the fan at 92%, 94C ?

Something isnt right.

Yeah, can 2x 8pin even deliver that much power?

If the card was running 95c at 92% fan speed, what was it running at overclocked?

Someone in an Xtremesystems thread suggested it could be 464 instead of 644, which sounds reasonable both for power and for a mistake.

Considering how 2x8pin + PCIe gives you maximum of 375W, I don't see how it's possible for it 200w more than the GTX480.

Yeah, those numbers can't be right. I would have guessed 20~40 watts extra, at the most, for the extra shaders (assuming the same clocks).

Not that I necessarily believe that the 512SP part really consumes 200+ watts more than the 480SP part, those numbers do seem sort of suspect, but I would imagine that it is very possible for a good power supply to deliver more than what the 8 pin connector is rated for.

What makes it difficult (though not imposible) for me to believe is that there are only two eight pin connectors. If this was really a 400 watt part I would think Nvidia would have a six pin connector there as well, they wouldn't expect two eights and the PCIE slot to deliver enough juice.

The only thing I can think of is that the 644 watt number is for the card overclocked?

You do understand the power figures you quoted are just ATX specs, right, and not the limits of the plugs?

Since quite a few high output power supplies already have dedicated rails for PCI-e connectors rated at 30A (360W) or more--not including the PCI-e slot's power, it's not impossible for a power supply to deliver more than the suggested 150W per 8-pin connector. (Power supplies like the Enermax Galaxy EVO 1250 w/30A PCI-e rails, Antec Quattro 1200 w/38A PCI-e rails, etc.)

The fans used on that Arctic Cooling heatsink have a range of 800-2000RPM I believe. So even at max speed the fans shouldn't be terribly loud, they don't spin at 5000RPM or whatever the blower in the 480 was rated for.

And yeah, the power consumption makes absolutely no sense. That can't be right.
