Interesting lecture. One does not have to be a conspiracy theorist or an alarmist to have noticed much of what she's talking about currently taking place to varying degrees. It's important to know of such historical patterns in the (ab)use of power so that our generation does not have to witness a repeat of history simply because of a lack of historical knowledge and foresight. Without getting crazy scared about slippery slopes, one should keep an eye open and not wait before it's too late to prevent a full implementation of some kind of fascist agenda in one's country.

The book sounds like a good read. 🙂

Yup. She was also on the Colbert Report, which is on Youtube as well.

I can't believe there are not any other comments about this.

Great video. She was very articulate in explaining a lot of the things going on in the US now. To bad most Americans think that the US is impervious to fascism, and know little of history especially outside of the US.

I don't think I've learned anything new in the first half, but it's well said (the weakest anecdote I think was the tasering of the kid in Florida to Jeb Bush).

What's scary is how hard it is to communicate what she communicates like she does, to those who are not open to it. Look no further than the poll here with republicans supporting torture.

I think what is scary is the thought that someone like Hillary will take office, and yet the direction toward fascism does not change.

Most people I know think USA is immune to fascism, because it has never happen here, therefore it's impossible. Even my good friends who are professionals and educated. It's like if it hasn't happened yet, it can't happen, ever. I don't know why they have this mentality.

The truth is often painful.

The basic teachings of democracy is its close relationship with oligarchy. Anything thriving country with a bloated population, regardless of governmental system, will evolve into an oligarchy.

Considering how rapidly the U.S has progressed financially and population wise, you would assume its demise would be equal in terms of speed.

200 years to become the World's most powerful nation? Past empires took thousands of years to establish themselves as global dominators, and the form of governments rarely possessed democratic traits.

Guess public schools are too busy bickering over science that they can't teach fundamental history. I'm only 16, so hopefully that puts some perspective.

pfft...people have been predicting the demise of this country since it was founded.

Bush is a terrible President and makes me long for the malaise of Jimmy Carter....but we will survive him.

Lets wait till he's out of office and we're down the road a bit before we say that.

I've not listened to the report but I've been planning and building for just such an implosion of the 'american way of life'. Our economy cannot digest expensive energy, that is the impetus for the expanding control of our government.

So you've converted your Y2K survival kit into a Collapse of American Society survival kit?

I think there is some truth to what shiner has to say, as well as Naomi Wolf. The threat is real, but I think we will fight it and win.

America is not going to collapse, no far from it. America will, however, eventually become a tyrannic state. Our tied up political and economic system guarantees this. More than anything though, I think America will fall to indulgence and irresponsibility (like the Roman Empire) than economic constraints.

Europe will probably go first, especially considering they can't even replenish their population.

She thinks that the "Don't tase me bro" incident is one of the examples of the fascist shift? come on now.

she had some interesting ideas, but then she got to the meat and potatoes of what she wants to do: put Bush behind bars for treason

in her words "a democratic uprising/legislation isn't enough, Bush needs to be put behind bars"

just another radical feminist crackpot with a severe case of BDS

"We" who? Most Americans are either in denial about it happening, or are too busy watching American Idol and Survivor to care.

with a book to sell.

I think we need to send this women to one of our secret prisons and have our secret paramilitary forces torture her into submission of our fascist ways.

What a bunch of horseshit.....

here's a more thought provoking question:

if libs REALLY think we're going to be taken over in some sort of fascist coup, why are said libs rushing to disarm everyone?

And they'll get Rudy's support.

Because liberals can also be stupid and blind.
"The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." -Thomas Jefferson

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -Thomas Jefferson

Democrats wanting to disarm seems like just another arm of the same beast. From the right, make the people feel like their only hope is to entrust the government with their safety. From the left, take away their ability to fight back. The perfect storm.

I tend more to the liberal side of issues, but I do not like the idea of taking guns away. As they say, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. When they show up at your door to seize your guns, I think the best response would be, "Hang on, let me go load them."

I'll also say, I didn't like her "Don't tase me bro" bit either. That guy sounded like a crazy person, who wouldn't stand down when warned. Yes, we have a right to file grievances, but we also have an obligation to be civil.

There was a good bit of interesting information in there though. Quite unfortunate that people seem to think it's impossible anymore. As long as there is power, there will be those who will want it. All of it.

Let's be accurate, the large majority of democrats are not wanting to take your rifles and shotguns; the gun control movement is mostly about handguns.

Nothing citizens do is going to be militarily effective much against the government, but handguns would be particularly ineffective for such a use.

They're for crime, mostly, IMO.

The other kind of guns that liberals sometimes raise issues with are the military-class rifles, such as sniper rifles, and automatic weapons. Are those what you're arguing to keep?
