Explorer issue

I have a Win2000 pro SP4 machine that upon boot, explorer
does not fully load. User logs in (not to a domain),
background loads, then everything stopps. I have to ctrl-
alt-del to get to task manager, processes tab,
explorer.exe is using anywhere from 4-5 meg memory. If I
kill that, go back to applications tab, click new task and
restart it, it loads fine using 15-18 meg memory. The rest
of the startup stuff does not load automatically, though.
I did find the W32.HLLW.Deloder virus and got rid of it.
The reg key
HKLM/software/microsoft/windowsnt/currentversion/winlogon/s
hell key is c:\winnt\explorer.exe. This was changed to the
full path when i discovered other explorer.exe files on
the system int the fonts folder. I ran both a local scan,
and an online cscan at www.symantec.com and found nothing
else. Is there another reg key I need to be looking at, or
do I need to reload?
.

It was that way originally, I changed it when I found the other explorer.exe's I wanted to make sure it was loading the right one.

I don't know what was broke, but the combination of Windoctor and Spybot fixed it.
