Can't find something? Click the Start button and begin typing. ... but why click through a few menus when I can tap the Start button on my keyboard and type "network connections" and press enter in 1/4 the time?

About 0.01% of users would have any notion of what words to type.

Typing "network connections" yields seventeen choices. Not for the typical user.

And the first one in the list is the right one, I think more than 0.01% of Windows users would think to try that. More problematic is what to do once they're in there, I doubt most of them know anything about TCP/IP and there's nothing Windows can do about that.

Honestly when I started with XP, I had a hell of a lot of customization to do in order to have everything the way I like. I'm NOT finding 7 to be any more tedious in this regard. It's just that some things we got used to with XP/2000 are different in 7, but that is to be expected too.

Explorer in 7 hasn't really bugged me at all, except for sometimes I right click a folder or a file, and it's not actually selecting the item I want which is annoying. Otherwise it's been great and the Start menu search bar is awesome.

Windows Explorer has been dumbed down and is for the common person. Those that want flashy 'ribbons' and search bars because they never set up default folders and have videos and pictures of cats both in C: \User shit\fuckme\Iahtemylife\cats and d: \catpicsaregreat\downloads\catpicshere

d: \ will most likely be an external drive that the user uses to back up cat pictures with.

Anyway, Get Total Commander. Make files your bitch.

It's all out there for you to change. I actually love that part of the new explorer personally but I don't resist change :) I learn how the new things work.
