For some reason whenever I play certain video files, ( believe its because they are really fragmented) my resources jumps up to 0% available because the system and explorer start sucking all the processor whats going on?

I have a 3.0C and a P4C800 Deluxe

If it's doing about 99% utilization or so and you have to keep killing explorer.exe, and it always happens after attempting to play videos, it has to do with something of the preview of the file if I remember correctly. I had to modify my registry and all was fixed. MS had a hotfix out for it too, but I can't seem to find that link anymore.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) following the advice from this is was fixed the problem.

Hope that helps.

Read the link I posted -- do the registry edit and see if that works. It should. Also look in the thread of the link and the MS Hotfix was posted, I just read through it.

delete this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Classes / CLSID / {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E} / InProcServer32

you cant search for it you just have to browse for it.

i had this problem before and its because windows tries to scan the media files for information and its its a divx or xvid or similar codec it hangs.
