Explorer doesn't update information about CDs

Everytime I insert a disc or remove it, explorer not only doesn't update the icon but it doesn't update the information on the disc, usually and the Properties isn't updated. I have this issue on two computers and I have no idea why it's so difficult to update exploer to notice the new disc.
 
It could be a system issue, but is more likely the drive itself not sending the media changed signal to the operating system. I just had an NEC 3540 fail after a year. In general these drives don't seem to be too robust anymore. I would try a different drive in the machines, if you have access to one.
