He sent me in his place. Have your way with me.

You know, my manhole is shaped in a way that the cover won't fall through...😉

He's in my thread neffing away and laughing at me. 🙁

"Exploding sewers" is kind of misleading. Not all manhole (access) covers are for sewers... 😛

With that said, Washington DC is no stranger to this phenomenon.

Learn why

Cheers!

What a stupid article

We don't often realize how much untapped energy exists all around us. The principle behind these manhole explosions is similar to how a car engine works. Imagine a city-sized engine with pistons as big as buildings. In this analogy, the manholes are the combustion chambers of the engine and the electrical lines are the spark plugs.

Uhm ... so the buildings are being moved up and down by these explosions? Where's the cylinder?

These powerful manhole explosions could theoretically power the city if they happened often enough.

Yea, and if I farted enough I could turn off my gas service :disgust:

How Stuff Works ussually does a better job then that.

Well the verdict is that somebody dumped alot of something flammable down the drain. Of course, they pumped huge amounts of water through the system to flush everything out and make it safe, so it's not likely they'll find out who/what it was.
