explanation of memory timings?

hi, i have never been familiar with what the memory timings exactly do. i've been fiddling with it to squeeze more performance out of my computer. right now i have it set at 2 - 2 - 2 - 5. but i really don't know what that means. i know that i probably don't wanna take cas down to 1.5 unless it got some serious memory. but if someone who is more familiar with memory technical stuff could enlighten me i'd appreciate it.

As you probably know, the gist of it is that the lower you can get your timings (and still have your computer operate reliably), the faster things will go in and out of memory, and thus the faster your computer will operate. However, if you want all the gory details about what each setting does, it is all explained in some detail here.
