Explaining the Tea Party

We all said that Bush killed the republican party and its true. It's thrashing about in its death throws but dead it is.

They thought that Nixon killed off the Republican Party, too...

You're almost as reasonable in your comparison as the imbeciles that call President Obama a Communist.

I'm not accepting any of that "both parties, etc" on this one.

The Republican party has been captured by an extreme right wing that among other things:

1) Believes in the "Unitary Presidency" which is clearly fascist.
2) Believes the security of the State overrides all Constitutional protections and that extremism is justified in any matter concerning the security of the State.
3) Believes in an 1890's system of government that preaches no government regulation.
4) Has put the interests of corporations ahead of the safety and security of America.
5) Is literally attempting to cause an economic collapse to further its political aims.

There may be authoritarian elements within the Republican Party, and I agree that their anti-regulation orthodoxy borders on the absurd, but I still find comparisons with fascists hyperbolic.

Besides, the Republican belief in the Unitary Executive disappeared as soon as their grip on the White House ended.
