you have to block out the rest because they trick your brain into thinking they are colored differently

the blocks ARE the same color (120,120,120). that's why this is such a popular optical illusion

the letters are actually differently colored. use some graphics program and check it yourself if you don't believe me. or just use a piece of tissue papter :D

The squares are the same color. They both have RGB values of 120.
