I was just talking to a EXTREME newbie (imagine your grandmother)...but he did provide me with a interesting question....

What is going on here?

He has a Microsoft Optical Intellimouse (or as he described it..."A microsoft mouse with a light under it")...but let's not even touch if it's USB or PS/2 (although he seemed to think the connector might have been square). Anyways...he says when he turns his computer off (by pressing the switch) all the fans & stuff turn off...but the little light on his mouse stays on. Is this possible? I would assume that if the fans are turning off that it is in fact off and not in sleep/suspend mode. He did confirm to me though that when he turns it off at the power strip...the light does go off (duh).

Don't forget the computer is still receiving power even after the system is off. Turning off the surge protector is the only way to fully cut the juice. I just answered someone's question about the LINK light on his NIC staying on. In thecase of the NIC, it's waiting for the Wake on LAN signal. The mouse light staying on should not be any concern unless it keeps your friend from sleeping. It is very likely the mouse if reciving power for a wake up from suspend, sleep, or power on.

Yes, it is possible.
It happen to my old BX chip mobo.
After I disable the ACPI function in the BIOS, it fixed the problem.
