Explain this looking for a moto v400 or v600

I am with Cingular and I am looking to upgrading to a moto v400 or v600. Turns out I am still in contract until Jan 06. (Well really I am out of contract but I switch plans with my sister so she could get a new phone because she is a freshman and of course has to be cool) Anyway I thought you couldnt upgrade unti you were out of contract but apparently not according to the guy at the Cingular store. (I tried to use my dads verizon phone that is on the cingular site but the guy said he couldnt switch it over to that because verizon doesnt use simm cards or something, to me it sounded like BS) But if I can upgrade to a nice phone anyway then I'd like to do that instead of using my dads old flip phone.

So if I can do this, can I get it at bestbuy and use rebates and stuff. Thats really my main question, is do I have to use Cingular retail store? And I havent checked but what are the prices on sending pictures, dl'n games screensavers ring tones etc.

Oh and is the v600 better than the v400? How long does the battery last?

Your verizon phone cannot be used with cingular because it does not use a SIM card, as the guy told you. If you buy from a non-cingular place, you will have to unlock the phone. Also, it will probably cost you a whole bunch to buy a phone without a contract.

Well doesnt bestbuy sell Cingular contracts? I was looking in the hotdeals section and there was something about getting a v600 fairly cheap. Anyway Ill stop by BB tommorow and see what they say.

Bluey:

You can upgrade your phone at any time you want, but when you sign a contract, you get a discounted price on the phone. When you buy a phone in the middle of a contract, you must pay full price for it.

BTW, the v400 is a very nice phone (I can only imagine the v600 is even nicer!), its what I have, and I like it alot.

Ok, so if I buy an "unlocked" phone can I just swap it over? Like this one here

Looks like without buying a plan I dont get the rebate, but still it comes to $200. I dont really want to extend my contract any longer if I dont have too...which it looks like on cingular.com requires you to sign a one or two year contract for the $200 price.

Huh guess not it shows $349 for the phone with no contract. Thats a lil rich, I guess I'll have to go by BB and just see if I can get the phone for about $200 with a new contract or something. This is going to really piss me off if I have to pay $350 for a phone just so my sister could get a $50 flip phone using my plan.

I went and got a v600 today at bestbuy. Turns out they dont let you upgrade and sign a new "agreement" until you are 21 months in but for some reason the computer said I could upgrade even though I was 4 months in. (The guy at the cingular store said he would be nice and change it for me but I am not sure if he did it or what) So I got the phone for $249. So far seems pretty nice but it is charging and I havent got to play with it much.
