Explain the difference between Linux and KDE GUI

ok so i have mandrake 8.1,,i get the impression by some posts i read that perhaps linux is only truly linux when you are using commands or somthing, i am a newbie at linux so i dont understand the difference between using the commands and just using the graphical interface such as KDE...if by using KDE i will not be able to learn linux as well then i dont want to use it..is this a faior statement??

Also..what is X-windows and when people say they use "X" does it mean they use"X windows"??

KDE is just a windows-like desk top interface in Linux. Command line can be accessed in a console or you can install Linux with just a command line interface. Command line is by far the most powerful interface. Just do your research and experiment. Linux is not that bad.

lots of people run linux without ever using the command line, but they really only scrape the surface of what linux is about. Start off with KDE (or whatever GUI you want) and once you're comfortable with that, see if you can move on to using the command line
X-windows in a nutshell is the base of the GUI for unix/linux. you can think of KDE as a layer on top of X windows

It's still Linux if you run KDE since you are using a linux kernel right ? I mean that's like saying DOS is not DOS because you are running Windozes 3.11 or something. Anyways CLI is sooo much powerful then a GUI in terms of what you can do and how you can do it. I mean you can create some basic shell scripts using the Linux commands themselves and even add some programming elements like for loops and other elements as well. You can make some pretty nifty shell scripts/programs if you have enough knowledge of how Linux/Unix works and some basic know how of C language and a good Linux/Unix book. I think to truely to be able to grasp the strenghts and sheer power of Linux you should learn how to use CLI first and then use the GUI and it will be a piece of cake from there.
