So, it has the nVidia MCP for audio, but uses the Realtek chip for output? WTF does that mean? Is it using the MCP or the Realtek? Or both?

The realtek chip is just used for DAC (Digital to Analog Conversion). The sound processing is by NVIDIA's MCP-T southbridge with Soundstorm.

I see. So is there any difference in performance between the Shuttle mobo with the Realtek chip and a full-blown nForce2 board that doesn't use that chip? Or do they all use that? Haven't done much reading on the MCP.....

They all use another chip for DAC - thus the difference in audio quality between different nForce2 boards. I forget who is supposed to have the best, though...
