Expiring frequent flyer miles

I have ~18000 Delta miles expiring on the 31st. Someone told me I can get a certificate and still hold on to them for a year? I guess I should call Delta? 😉
 
That reminds me, i have like 40-45k saved up and i need to start using them.....

Well continental miles used to not expire, then they changed it to 18 months of inactivity on an account. Not a big problem though, because you can always buy things to increase your miles....
