Helas, it was a good (well, bloody wonderful) deal when it was available. I wonder exactly what happened: was the publicly available code a limited offer? Were they overwhelmed by questionable subscribers? Was this whole thing supposed to be restricted to MSDNAA participants in the first place?

Have you any of you subscribed after the 14th yet received your subscriber information?

I hope most of you got in whilst the getting was good. :thumbsup:

I just checked my Amex card and MS has not charged my card as of yet and I ordered the 17th in the morning. So, I'm thinking they are going to deny me from the deal.
 
As far as TechNet subscribers are concerned, what's the difference between the Standard and Enterprise editions of Vista?

And for "Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 Checked/Debug Build", what does "Checked/Debug Build" mean?

i ordered yesterday, too. so far just got the order submission confirmation, though it states an estimated delivery date of march 27. cc still hasn't been billed, so keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
 
Does this mean 10 activations or ??? I see only 1 key for vista Ultimate, business. 15 activations of Vista enterprise, 1500 of Server 2008 -- holy shiz! This I like 🙂

What if I reinstall software frequently, do I need to activate the software each time?
We understand that TechNet subscribers have unique needs, so we have included special activation privileges for TechNet subscribers.

TechNet Subscription product keys can be used to activate up to 10 machines.
Although you must go through the activation process each time you reinstall on the same PC, your total number of activations will not be decremented.
For Windows, TechNet subscribers have a 60-day grace period before the product must be activated. If you will be reinstalling the software in less than 60 days, you do not need to activate it. Please note that Windows Update and Windows Genuine Advantage require that the installation be activated.


 
Thanks for pointing this out, I got a subscription for Free!! Found it on my schools site, my department has a deal to get whatever you want for free while a student, now I have 4 months to get everything before I graduate!

Does anyone know if this means, once you get your subscription you have only 60 days to install windows, afterwhich time you cannot. Even though the subscription is for one year.

You have a year to download and install Windows. The 60 days refers to how long you have after you install before you have to "activate" Windows before it disables itself.

So this would mean if you installed windows on a second or third computer, you would also have 60 days from each installation to activate.
 
Where exactly does it say that your license to evaluate the technet software that you've downloaded during the time of a technet subscription does NOT expire when the technet subscription expires?

I've seen plenty of people outside of Microsoft make that assertion. And from reading the couple of FAQ / license related pages on Microsoft's site I see nothing to INDICATE the license to evaluate the software ever expires unless you're under the volume licensing technet program. However I've seen nothing stating explicitly that the evaluation license does NOT expire with technet either.

I have seen a microsoft employee's web page state that they've removed the built in "time bomb" forced limits on the software versions you download from technet so that what you download is basically the same as the full retail software versions and has not got additional built in expiration limits in the software.

However I'm also confused about the 60 day thing... for instance in the case of Vista, I thought that the retail versions of the product forced you to activate within *30* days of installation, and could be manually rearmed three times to start a fresh 30 day grace period commencing on the date of the rearm. In the case of Office07, I thought you had something like 50 INVOCATIONS (however many times you load the application when it isn't already running) before you have to activate it. So how can the Technet software be the *SAME* software as the full retail programs if the TechNet downloaded software gives you *60* days to activate it from the date of installation if the retail versions of the products do something DIFFERENT in at least several cases?

Are the TechNet software downloads "branded" / "watermarked" as being from TechNet or associated with a given TechNet account / user? Do any of the downloads have a different GUID or hash than the retail products, possibly depending on WHO downloads them or WHEN they're downloaded or whatever? i.e. if someone downloaded a product for evaluation from TechNet, evaluated it, liked it, bought themselves some keys / licenses FOR that product, would one be making a mistake and getting something even slightly different than the RETAIL product if one used the TechNet downloaded installation image to install the product which one would ACTIVATE and USE with keys / licences one has purchased separately and subsequently? Obviously one wouldn't want to have a lab full of machines that all claim to be TechNet Limited License Evaluation Versions licensed to Joe Blow ACMECo. if one has actually bought & used the full licenses/keys for those products and just made a mistake of using one install image vs. the other assuming they're identical.

The most common use of an image file is to write it to a blank DVD Recordable disc resulting in an identical copy of the original DVD including file name and volume label information. Can I use evaluation software received in my TechNet subscription at home?
In most cases, yes: the license grants installation and use rights to one user only, for evaluation purposes, on any of the user?s devices. You may not use it in a live operating environment, a staging environment, or with data that has not been sufficiently backed up. You may not use the evaluation software for software development or in an application development environment.
