So I was thinking about taking a half a capsule of NoDoz, but it looks like it expired back in September 2009. Since its just caffeine are there really any adverse side affects of taking an expired pill. Google only resulted in "Dispose of expired pills."

I doubt it'll harm you. Its just caffeine and a filler. It may not be that effective but a 7 month expiration date isn't anything to worry about with an OTC medication you can get at truck stops.

prescription medications really don't expire.
I've never ran across problems using "expired" OTC pain meds/NSAIDs.

I cannot imagine it is any different for caffeine.

Chemicals really don't expire. Maybe a decade later some of the total amount of the chemical has broken down so effectiveness diminishes, but I don't really even know about that. Maybe some of the compounds used in the pill to make it an actual pill will start breaking down. Maybe the glycols and cellulose-type compounds start breaking down after a lengthy amount of time, but unless those break down into toxic chemicals, I don't think there is a problem.

I think medications basically have those expiration dates mainly because it's law. Kind of covers the company's ass just in case there is something they had no idea about as a potential decomposition issue.

Based on all the information I've come across online about various medications and expiration dates, I'm convinced there is no issue for most products. I'm still alive after who knows how many "expired" pills, be them OTC or prescription.

The only thing that I won't use after the expiration date would be eye drops. Most likely safe but there really aren't any safety buffers for the eyes for me to apply my gamble to them.

Don't forget antibiotics, or other things with live cultures, proteins, and other sorts of living crap.

Well don't those basically just turn into ineffective products, versus being dangerous?

But yes, I did forgot about those. Chemicals were the only thing on my mind. Because I like chemicals. :D

I think the US gov did a study where they found that 95% of medications are still good years after the exp date.

And coffee does not taste better than a caffeine pill unless you like the taste of black coffee.

Nodoz = a rip off version of the caffeine pill which goes wholesale for <5c for 200mg capsule.

I don't know tbh. The protein based medications and stuff probably break down, but the ones with active cultures? I don't know. It seems to me they could go either way, being too weak, or too strong. I'm not in medicine, so I have no idea.

Seriously, I am pissed.
Target used to, well in general carry caffeine pills, but specifically, alongside NoDoz was JetAlert.
90 200mg pills. For around $4 or $5.
Now Target doesn't carry any caffeine pills. And I've never seen JetAlert anywhere else. And too damn ridiculous of a concept to buy caffeine online. I mean, sure, I could buy pure pharm-grade caffeine powder for real cheap, and bulk. But then I'd just feel like a junkie. I mean, sure... I am. But, at least I don't feel like one. Who knows how many things I'd be sprinkling that fine powder on too if I actually had it.

Heh I've been taking my 12 year old prescription Zyrtec for a few days, seemed to actually work fine.

Ended up buying some generic Claratin.

This thread made me think of high school days. Anyone remember white crosses?

That's college for me.
As in now.

Then again, it's the more "legit" form - Bronkaid, just the ephedrine chemical.
By time I figured out exactly what ephedra was capable of, all the forms that could be bought in stores were gone.

Still not understanding the ban. You can buy ephedra products everywhere online. As "diet" pills too.
