Notes for those interested...

The E520 (and E521) will NOT fit dual slot video cards. So you definitely cannot put an 8800 series card in this system.

Of course any single-slot PCI Express card will fit fine. The PSU is fully capable of running a 7950 GT or an X1950 Pro (single slot versions) or an 8600 series card.

Another important thing to remember is there are zero PATA slots on the motherboard. Yes, even the optical drives are all SATA of course. Do NOT even try to run any kind of PATA drive in this system, not even with some kind of adapter. You'll only pull your hair out.

Just for clairifcation, how about a card with a ARCTIC COOLING Accelero X2 cooler on it?
Will that fit?

Not trying to crap on a non-crapper but the $279 is not the same configuration as this one.

Differences:
XP OS
160 GB HD vs 80GB HD
DVD +/- Dual layer RW vs DVD Rom
Free Shipping

It boils down to getting the above for about $40 which is worth it IMHO.

Great deal, nice time for fathers day too my father needs a new computer. He is running an ancient Celeron 350 overclocked to 500... The monitor is borderline illegible. Thanks OP!

good/decent deal for those that need a legal copy of windows. otherwise i would recommend holding out for another of those $379/389 deals on a core2duo e4300 w/ubuntu or freedos systems.

That may be tight. Let me pull an e520 out of the box and snap a pic.

Some pics...

(This is actually an E521, but it is the exact same system, just with a different motherboard and cpu)

That is an MSI 8600 GTS card installed. You will notice that you need an adapter to run a video card that needs a 6pin power connector. There is only ONE free 4pin connection, and of course no 6pin either.

The power supply is rated at 305W and has two 12V rails at 18A each.

If you want to replace the memory (which will be Samsung, Nanya, or Infineon), the Super Talent DDR2 667, the Corsair Value Select and XMS DDR2 667, Patriot Signature Series, all work in this system. Might not be a good idea to mix the original with what you add, you can try.

Corsair DDR2 667...

This PQI should work fine in it too...

For the e520n you can free shipp if you upgrade any of the components so it $300.
Still both are good deals just depends on what you need. Also bit systems you can still get the $350 off any $999 systems. So if you are market for a 24" monitor these deals together are great.

Bamacre you say the e520 and e521 are the same but a differnet MB.
I know the e520 has a G965 chipset. But do you know who makes it and the verison number? Really just want to know if this MB will get a firmware upgrade for Quad chips later?

Also will getting DDR800 help if you plan on doing OC after I drop in a C2D later.. I know the bios will not OC, but I understand that software OC works.

Not sure who makes it, but it is exclusive to Dell, not a standard board.

It is most likely going to be up to Dell whether or not it gets a firmware update that support quad core.

I have never seen a software OC on a Dell.

The ONLY way to OC that I know of is cpu modding, so you'd need a C2D with an 800mhz fsb and up it to a 1066mhz FSB.

haha, check this I ordered this and got the email saying that estimated shipping date would be 6/14/07. I wasnt too happy with that as I need this BEFORE Fathers Day so I call up Dell and ask them if they can expedite the build time and the guy said well thats only the estimated time and they cant do anything about that but he said he could do next day shipping for me and I said well not if its going to cost me anything and I couldnt believe my ears but he said it was at no charge to me. The next day shipping was $109 at checkout! So basically I scored a extra $109 for nothing.

Tempting...but would this be a viable system for someone who wants to play the latest pc games for the next few years [I would add in an x1950pro video card]? The only thing that bugs me is the Processor - yeah, it's dual core, but it's not "core 2 duo" - which according to tom's hardware is a significant difference [had to use Pentium D 930]:

You would be much better off with an XPS 410 (or Dimension 9200 via small biz).

Better power supply (capable of running 8800 GTX) and it will fit dual slot video cards...

Hi,

I was looking at this PC for my wife, she has a rather old P3-850. Will this video card be ok if all she does with the PC is normal Word stuff, cruise the Internet, pay bills and run iTunes?

Any comments good/bad about the processor?

Thank you for your comments.

No. And don't call me Shirley.

I joined solely to post that.

Hope someone gets it.
