Well, first off, I want to say that I'm a newbie at building computers. This will be my first attempt and I think this is what I'm going to put together. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you think it looks good, say that too!

EPOX EP-8KHA+ - $100
Athlon xp 1700 retail - $132
Seagate Barracuda IV 60GB 7200RPM ST360021A Hard Drive - $112
Gainward Geforce3 Ti200 Golden Sample - $156
512 MB DDR 2100 RAM - 150 from cucial, 113 from mushkin deal
Antec SX635 w/ 350 psu - $95 shipped

So this should be a total of less than 800 bucks. I already have kb, mouse, speakers, network card, and 17' monitor, and I plan on using the onboard sound.

Would it be ok to get the mushkin and save 37 bucks? OR is crucial
that much better...

Thanks in advance for any of your suggestions or approvals! It is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions! I just hope I don't miss the RAM deal for 113 😉

Thanks again! Any other suggestions out there?

The SX830/840 cases give you a bit more room to expand, I wouldn't get the little 635 unless I were quite sure that I wouldn't be adding anything else in the future. Definitely, that's a good deal on the Mushkin - go for it. And since you've got a good board for OC'ing, you may want to consider a better HSF with an OEM CPU. Even if you don't feel like OC'ing right now, the extra ~$20 could save you the trouble of pulling everything apart in the future. But still, everything looks pretty solid from here.

Newegg has this MB refurbed for $69.00 shipped from what others are saying these seem to be brand new
these boards had a boot prob in the begining that U had to replace bios to fix. that is I think what has happened with these MBs
they come in retail box with eveything intact. Also I've been using codegen ps's 350watt amd aproved 1900xp and up avd they have a switch on them with no prob these are about $33.00 shipped from openlinx.com they might not work well in a full tower as wires are
alittle short for that

Thermalright SK6 is a great HS... But if your worried about noise, because it does ship with a Delta fan, order a Thermaltake 60x60x25mm fan... it is much quieter, and its what I did to quiet the system down... It sounds like a jet getting ready to take off if you don't...

Spook

So if I add 20 bucks and get a better HSF, do you think it will add a few more years to the computer even if I never overclock, or not? I think I want to stick to new items, so far, i haven't had much luck with refurbs... maybe it's just me though!

Also, if I get the codegen 350 watt ps, what is a good case for that? Since you said the wires were short, can you recommend a case that it will fit nicely in?

Thanks!
