Experiences with the Iogear USB KVM??

Hello all!

I'm looking to buy a high-quality KVM for my computer. I currently am using a whole boatload of USB devices, including my mouse and keyboard, so this switch looks ideal for what I need.

My main question is about monitor resolution. They claim they support up to 1920x1440, and I run at 1600x1200x75hz. However, I am curious about image quality, and how good it is with these IOgear switches.

Does anybody out there have one of these? Do you run at 1600x1200?

I'd appreciate any input that you can give me!

Thanks,
John

I am planning to get a USB KVM as well. In fact, I thought I would be getting the IOGear. Now, I am leaning to a 4-CPU unit from StarView as it is the same price as the IOgear 2-CPU swith.

I might look into it further ... when I actually get two computers.

Why the Starview over the Iogear?

And does anybody actually OWN one of these things? I found a couple of threads asking about them in the past, but nobody ever responded.

The only reason why I am looking at the Starview is because it can support 4 machines for the same price (slightly cheaper) than Iogear's 2-machine model. If you feel like a few clicks, go to my website (listed in profile) and look at the Project Jukebox spreadsheet.

I bought the IOGear Miniview 2 port USB KVM today. It's basically a 4 port USB hub w/ an A/B switch, in addition to the video switching. I haven't noticed any ghosting or anything like that, running at 1280x1024@85hz. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Bryan,

Thank you for the info. Is there anyway you could test the switch at 1600x1200 and let me know if the image quality is still good?

Thanks!

I've tried it at 1600x1200@72hz. To me it looks ok, but on my monitor the text at 1600x1200 is pretty small, so it's tough to say how well it really works (ie. it's hard to read to begin with). I still don't see any "ghosting" at least.

I'd say this is the sort of thing you should get from a store with a good return policy, just in case. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Bryan,

Thanks for testing it at 1600x1200 for me. I think I'm going to buy one of these in the next month or two. I just wanted to hear first hand from someone who owned one before making the decision.
