Experiences to access to Echelon smart metering systems? / ANSI C12.18?

While others are still celebrating the new world champion in mobilethrowing in the little town in Finland where I live, I am wondering on how to access the shortly to be deployed Echelon smart metering system.

Has anybody already developed a routing to access the embedded firmware via ANSI C12.18 or ANSI C12.19 standards? I think this should be way.. - any ideas or experiences? Would like to read the data before our darkness will come....

In case that someone is interested: I've made progress. Our darkness will come. Seems next weekend will be the right for this.

Why would you want to access what appears to be a commercial product that monitors your power usage?
