Actually, this is part of an electronics class project, but I want to do a nice job on them, because we will be taking them home after we finish making them :)

My overall plan was for these speakers to basically provide the mids and highs in my HT system, because my lows are taken care of already.

The speakers will need to achieve very crisp and clean sound, with the ability to play at high sound volume levels :)

The signal would be using the 100 to 200hz crossover in my Pioneer vsx-d608 receiver, so that'll help filter out the lows even better.

Now, here's my design plan.
The cabinets will be 4 feet tall, 10 inches wide and 15 inches deep (could expand if needed)

How good do you think it would sound?
I'm on a really tight budget, so I'm thinking I may have to go with a

type of setup.

The drivers will have 24db/octave crossovers on them (~5000hz lowpass to the Mid, ~4000hz highpass to the tweeter).

My choices for mids:

HIGHLY likely

LMK what you guys think, and TIA :)

I have a comment...

Thanks for getting me started on another expensive hobby.

:p

I just ordered a speaker design book from Amazon, I think I'm going to build myself speakers to complement my new baby... My Wega.

Why are you crossing over at different frequencies may I ask? Plus I heard that a TMM instead of MTM might give a slightly better in room response but I don't know if there is a world of difference. I've heard pretty good reviews of the Dayton drivers as far as low cost high performance goes. I'm building a set myself for an acoustics class, two dayton 6.5's and a vifa d27. I don't know about you but that response plot of the d19 looks pretty scarey, or am I reading it wrong? The response rolls off at only 2khz maybe that should be 20khz and they just labeled the plot wrong?

Well, I'm figuring on getting rid of the slight drop in response at the crossover frequency, so By having the overlapping crossover frequencies, it should get rid of that.

I just noticed that the Pioneer mid's are only rated for operation down to 500hz....looks like I'll need to find a woofer that's smooth up to 4k or get a seperate 6.5inch woofer.
Dang!

In the Mid Tweet Mid combo, would the sound be much worse if one were to make a Mid-Tweet-Woofer type instead?

Because the mid only goes down to 500hz....not exactly ideal :(

Lots of experienced speaker builders recommend going to the beach, putting pebbles in your mouth, and speaking over the roar of the waves.

Lol, I think the moon's getting to ya bud :D
Doesn't matter anyways, because I've decided on my design, just need help picking the drivers.
