So, I finally put my computer in the living room, on a new tv stand, with my 23" monitor I was using as tv in place. I had it in my 2nd bedroom and sat closer to it.

I want a tv for over-the-air programing (occasional sports), but will not sign up for cable. The couch is a little over 70" away from the screen.

I want to use the tv as a monitor, for dvd's, netflix, etc.. I'm looking at this cheap 39" Element: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Element-EL...oofer/23740363

Anybody have any experience with this brand? I'm not super picky, I just want an ok screen, 1080p (for use as a monitor) and a decent size.

If you're going cheap I'd stick to Vizio. You're also going to want more than a 39" screen at that viewing distance.

Larger? I'm using a 23" monitor right now and it seems barely useable, lol. I was thinking 32" might be sufficient. What would be a good size?

Why Vizio?

Vizio is a known quantity in the budget TV world. It may be cheap but its definitely a "name brand" with fairly decent CS. Element is like buying a Sorny or Magnetbox.

And yes, larger. Why? Why not? Unless you're a penny pincher you will appreciate a larger screen. Plus for computer use the text will be quite small. Not saying it will be terrible, but I would suggest moving up to 46". 52" would be a touch overkill IMHO.

Sceptre used to be of good quality...back in CRT days. I'm sure its current iteration is just some name bought by a random Chinese company.

I would honestly spend the extra dough and get at least a Vizio.
