Experience selling to CarMax?

Hey guys,

I bought a new car about a month ago before the shutdown. I did not do a trade in because I wanted to sell my car privately to get more $$$ and I was waiting for the duplicate title to come in. Well, everything shutdown including getting my title... I spoke with a co-worker and he said you can sell the car to CarMax without needing the title upfront. I wanted to also sell my Scion xD.

How has your experience been?

I have 4 cars.
2020 Subaru Forester
2004 Nissan Altima - This is my beater car that I am learning on.

CarMax cars to sell
2012 Buick Regal - I wanted to sell this one
2009 Scion xD - I wanted to sell this one after I gain confidence the Nissan Altima.

Thoughts?

They will offer you what they can get for it at auction, which right now is even worse than their normal low ball offer.

It does not cost anything to let them make a offer that is good for a week. But honestly I would just list it on craigslist and cars.com with a lower price. price it cheap enough and it will sell. Just make sure to notify the DMV you sold it in case they do something stupid with it.
I just sold my truck private party and had to let them keep the plates as the DMV is still closed. But I still filled out the online notice at the DMVs site showing it was sold.

I've heard the offers are very low and they won't negotiate one penny.

Carmax is only for getting rid of something you really just want gone.
