you can get a fortron or sparkle which dont cost as much as antecs or enermaxs but they are still quality PSU's. BUT you dont want to get a no-name PSU

A good rule of thumb...except for the Antecs, if it's got LED fans, it's gonna suck, no matter what they say!

I have a L & C 350W with a similar setup as you, except no cold cathode (had one for a month but I crushed it by accident), 5 fans(3 case, 1 CPU, 1 HDD), and a NewQ Platinum. It works great, knock on wood (it's already a year old), even though I've shorted a couple fan wires a few times (I'm not the best at wiring, but I'm getting better). My CPU is only a Pentium 3 500MHz though, with no oc'ing(I have an intel mobo). I bought it at electroseller.com http://www.electroseller.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PS_350W-LC-A350ATX&Category_Code=350W Check it out! BTW, my computer runs 24/7/365.

EDIT: Fixed link.

Dont go no-name -- mine simply died on me while i was watching Spirited Away about two months ago. Now I'm quieter and happier with a TruePower 230W.

generic PS aren't fun to have. my cheap 350watt on my old pIII blew for reason and jumped all the fuses in my house. brands like enermax and antec are built better and more stable voltage rails. plus they are also quieter(at least some are) and will last a LOT longer than those cheap ones

Alot of ppl say the Allied units are a decent PS. I've also seen alot of comments about the Fortron units. I don't know why ppl combine Sparkle with Fortron, the Sparkles are good for sure, but they seem more expensive than a comparable Fortron. Maybe I just haven't looked enough.

plz critique lol

can i for exmaple use 1 of those power splitter and split off my cd drive or HDD and would it affect the hdd or cd drive?> if so how many splits/lites/fans can i lpug into each 1

THG Opinion

"Other power supplies in the test, however, generated noise levels above the 50 dB mark, including the Coba, Channel Well, Leadman and Task. In our opinion, loud humming, loud vibration and/or high-pitched whistling are the results of poor product design. And, as far as we are concerned, this poor design is directly traceable to manufacturers' excessive cost cutting at the production stage."

Ouch

the comment about the power supply blowing up, this is true, i know from experience. *points to 'deer' power supply*.

antec and enermax if you have the money, sparkle if the budget it tight. most people have said this, but it is sound advice.

I spent more money on shipping RMA'ing dead generic power supplies than I did on my Antec TRU430.

I see no one answered this... I if understand correctly, you would need one splitter for each extra device you want to power. So, you'd plug the splitter into the HDD, the other end into the PS, and now you have one more power header for a fan. If you need another for another fan, you need another splitter. You can safely plug it into the first splitter.

In summary, one of the splitters I linked will give you the ability to plug in one more thing. They can be safely chained together. The only limitation would be the amount of power than the PS puts out.

If I'm going to have..

ThermalTake Xaser III Super Tower (which has 7 fans)
ASUS P4C800e Deluxe
Intel P4 3.0 GHz
2 x 512MB (Dual) DDR memory
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
SB Audigy 2 Platinum
DVD+-RW drive
DVD-ROM drive
1 x 120 GB Serial drive
1 x 160 GB IDE drive
3+ USB devices connected to the mobo*
2 IEEE devices connected to the mobo*

how much power do I need? Is 450W enough?

* power supply for some of these devices aren't through external adapter, so they gets the power supply through the mobos.

CHECK OUT THESE REVIEWS

http://www.bit-tech.net/review/123/

http://www.equilla.co.uk/review_dual_fan_gold.htm

I was thinking of payin aroung 50-60 pounds for a PSU, but then after reading these reviews and seeing this PSU for a piddling 23 pounds, I will never buy an expensive PSU ever again, it is simply not necessary. This baby has more than enough juice to power the most beefed up rig, and for the price is an absolute steal. It comes with some very nice fans too :D

I read the first review and I have the same conviction as them, what about reliability... Maybe the thing has adequate power but maybe it dies in 7 months and possibly takes other components with it. That would be my concern.
