Expensive Mothers Day Lesson

So I waited until the last minute to get my Mothers Day card sent out in the mail today. I purchased the card last weekend with the intention of getting it out into the regular mail earlier this week, but put it off until today. I went to FedEx to send the card next day air with a Saturday delivery from Chicago to Florida, grand total: $41.70. And to think I only got the card because I was strapped for cash, I could have ordered some cheap flowers for delivery at about the same price.

You should have sent flowers and had them come late. It would have been more of a surprise that way :^D

I'm lucky that my mom doesn't care about Mother's Day. She calls it a "Hallmark holiday." Also her birthday is right around the corner (May 16th) so there doesn't seem to be much point.

Economically, it's a dumb decision, no doubt but at least you made sure that she'd get the card. At the end of the day...that's all that matters and if it brings a smile to your mother's face, it was worth it.

Here's what you do next time. Locate a local florist where your mom lives and have them deliver flowers AND a card. And, stay the hell away from Hallmark!

My mom would probably give me a long lecture if she heard I spend $41 for postage on a card.

Astro, what a small world, my mom's B-day is on the 16th too. Won't be home for that though. I'm sure she enjoys Mother's Day more than her birthday though, who wants to be reminded how old they are?

that works. or even better send card snail mail when you can. call mother on mothers day and while talking ask if she got the card. she says no you say bah i sent it and threw it in the blue box! 3 days later she gets it and is happy!

you save $40 and you are happy!

Nothing makes a mother smile like knowing her child waited until the very last minute to send her a basic, canned greeting card from hallmark and thus wasted large amounts of money to send it.

Nothing makes a mother smile like [not] knowing her child waited until the very last minute to send her a basic, canned greeting card from hallmark and thus wasted large amounts of money to send it.

Yes... how would the mother possibly know? I mean it's not like she's getting some sort of package that indicates it was sent via next day saturday delivery or anything.

Another corporate holiday created to steal my money. My mom can go in the chicken and bake me a cake, I'll eat it and give her round of golf claps.

Wow, fuck that. You failed the lesson.

I think my mom would be embarassed if I paid 41 dollars to send a mothers day card.

The good kind since I cared and tried to show it.... but more the bad kind of embarrassment at knowing I failed miserably 😛

Send an email card you nitwit.

....Or.......go to Home Depot and ask one of the Mexicans standing outside who has a relative that lives in Chicago. Then have that relative hand deliver the card to her mail box.

Ya just gotta think out of the box.

x2 on the phone call. Cards are nice if you're insanely busy, but I'm sure she'd prefer to hear your voice and find out how you're doing.
