Expensive Component video cables - how much of a difference do they make?

I am going to buy some component cables for my dvd player. keep in mind i only have a 27" CRT. I am just trying to find something that is better than RCA.

How much of a noticable difference does it make to spend $10 vs. $90 on component cables? I found some Philips cables at walmart for $10 and some Monster ones at Circuit City for $90. And all sorts of stuff in between. Is it worth buying component cables online?

Yes buy the Monster ones. They'll make a world of difference. In fact, replace all of your cables with Monster. You won't regret it.

every time this topic comes up we say the same thing; just buy from monoprice.com they're excellent quality and cheap to boot.

Buy the cheap ones in the store or order some cheap ones online from monoprice. If you want good quality cables don't buy the monster brand name b/c your paying 2~3x the price for their name.

They might not have the bandwidth required though. But sure, good in a pinch.

Yeah, or even red/white/yellow composite/rca cables? You won't notice a difference on a 27" SDTV.

Do NOT use red/white/yellow audio/video cables for a component hookup. The red/white audio cables generally aren't the correct impedance or bandwidth or construction.

Probably not a big deal for playing on a TV that I assume is 480i.

To be honest, I just use regular old RCA cables, whether they're a pair of stereo RCA cables with a yellow (composite) rca cable or three composite cables, they all work for me. Hell I use those cables for my 'digital audio coax'. IMO they're all the same, though some cables are thicker than others, thats what I'd check for I guess...

this might work for some people, depending on how picky you are... but "regular old RCA cables" are nominally 50 ohm and composite RCA cables are 75 ohm. unwanted reflections and signal attenuation definintely occur if you use the wrong cable, but if you can't notice, who cares?

But it will still work. I doubt you will be able to tell a difference on a SDTV.
